This about sums it up…

The best summary of the Saddleback Civil Forum comes from a comment left at Hugh Hewitt’s blog:

McCain by a TKO
No surprise.

Obama is a post modern college prof who is the product of the antiseptic ivory tower.

McCain is a 70 year dude who has spent a lifetime getting his butt out of tough situations and grappling with reality.

No contest.

Obama talks down to Clarence Thomas

We risk forgetting that the reason Jesse Jackson wished to castrate Barack Obama was because Jackson believes (present tense) that Obama talks down to black people. Obama’s full frontal assault on the intelligence of Justice Clarence Thomas at the Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency is a case in point. Listen carefully in the following YouTube clip and you will hear Obama catch himself just before he accuses Thomas of not having the “experience” necessary (at the time of his nomination) to be a Supreme Court Justice. Realizing that he himself has less experience now than Clarence Thomas had at the time of his nomination, Obama quickly changes directions and makes Thomas’ intelligence the issue, when compared with the intelligence of, say, that white guy Antonin Scalia.

Rick Warren is a genius

At least when it comes to formatting a presidential debate. When was the last time you saw a debate in which the candidates did not have the advantage of sizing up their opponents’ answer before giving their best response to that answer? This format allowed us to actually hear what the candidates themselves believed about the issues freed from the poltical tendency to oneupmanship. The result was a window into the very different ways these men would lead – or not lead.
