McCain Surges

John McCain has wiped out Barack Obama’s 7-point margin and has pulled ahead in the race for president by 5 points according to a new Zogby Poll. Of course McCain’s turn around is credited to his “attacks” on Obama, rather than on the real story. While Obama vacationed in sunny Hawaii, John McCain showed real leadership and a presidential response to the crisis in Georgia.

Also interesting to note is that McCain leads by 9-points on the question of which candidate can better manage the economy.

I noted in an earlier post that the Saddleback Civil Forum reset the clock on this campaign and it seems to be true.

Obama talks down to Clarence Thomas

We risk forgetting that the reason Jesse Jackson wished to castrate Barack Obama was because Jackson believes (present tense) that Obama talks down to black people. Obama’s full frontal assault on the intelligence of Justice Clarence Thomas at the Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency is a case in point. Listen carefully in the following YouTube clip and you will hear Obama catch himself just before he accuses Thomas of not having the “experience” necessary (at the time of his nomination) to be a Supreme Court Justice. Realizing that he himself has less experience now than Clarence Thomas had at the time of his nomination, Obama quickly changes directions and makes Thomas’ intelligence the issue, when compared with the intelligence of, say, that white guy Antonin Scalia.

Obama’s hubris at Saddleback

Carol Platt Liebau over at the Townhall.com blog made an interesting observation about the irony of Barack Obama denying Justice Clarence Thomas a seat on the Supreme Court because he lacked experience:

Irony alert:  As Amanda (Carpenter) notes below, Barack Obama tells Rick Warren that he wouldn’t have nominated Justice Thomas to the Supreme Court because he wasn’t prepared.

Well, check out his bio: Among other distinctions, Justice Thomas served as chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1982 until 1990, when he was nominated to the DC Circuit by President George HW Bush.  He was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1991. 
Yet according to Barack, Justice Thomas wasn’t prepared to serve as one of nine justices despite working for Senator Danforth, as an attorney at Monsanto, and in federal service for nine years as the head of a federal agency (a federal government tenure three times as long as Obama’s).  Yet we’re to believe that Barack considers himself prepared to serve as the one and only President and leader of the free world after three paltry years in the US Senate (along with part time service in the state legislature)?

Wow.  That’s hubris.

The presidential campaign begins today

An exhausted American electorate has been tuning in and out of this presidential campaign for more than 18 months, a campaign which began way too soon. But tonight the clock has been reset, just in time for the respective party nominating conventions, the Veep selections, and the presidential debates.

Forget everything you thought you knew about the polticial fortunes of Barack Obama and John McCain. Tonight’s Civil Forum on the Presidency hosted by Rick Warren and Saddleback Church has changed the landscape dramatically, focusing like a laser on the stark differences between Barack Obama and John McCain, both politically, generationally, and philosophically.

Tonight is the night the American electorate had its first opportunity to size up the candidates without interjection from the main stream media. After tonight, 200,000 Europeans chanting “O-Bam-A,” solidifying Barack Obama as an international superstar, is a distant memory which will serve only to magnify Obama’s elitism. John McCain’s “cross in the sand” story does more to elevate him in the eyes of his countrymen than all of the photo-ops of Obama’s European Tour combined. John McCain’s direct and candid answers demonstrated real world experience compared with Obama’s obfuscation on nearly every question (his three wisest advisers are his wife, grandmother, and Sam Nunn? He’s kidding, right?) which demonstrated classroom hypothesis.

Keep in mind that McCain has been campaigning non-stop for the last several weeks while Obama just returned tonight from a weeks vacation in Hawaii. Obama should have been on his game and McCain should have been showing age fatigue. Obama wasn’t and McCain didn’t. One is a pretender. The other is the Real McCoy.

The campaign begins today with advantage: McCain.
