Up Late with Chris Matthews

2006-07-18-nbctshowmatthews.jpgI never stay up past 10:00 pm lately but here I am watching Chris Matthews on Jay Leno trashing President Bush. I’m typing as Matthews is talking. From the moment he sat down he began questioning this ‘terrible war,’ lamenting that President Bush has U.S. troops in ‘the middle of Arabia’ where they never should have been in the first place, but now with ‘no way out.’ He informs Jay that the American people don’t want U.S. troops in Iraq, to which the audience responds with thunderous applause as if on que. Can you say, “Lemmings”?

He just told Jay that President Bush ‘wasn’t exactly elected’ and that half the American people believe Iraq attacked us on 9/11. Where is the support for that statistic? He is rehashing the old lines about Bush lying about WMDs to justify the invasion. As an ‘objective journalist’ doesn’t Matthews have a responsibility to point out that the CIA during the Clinton Administration surmised the WMDs in Iraq and recommended regime change there? I guess not, because he also told Leno that journalists have to stop worrying about being perceived as unobjective and begin questioning this administration. He just said you have to put your money on the Democrats to win the next presidential election and that Hillary has a lock on it.  So much for objective journalism. I’ll have more to say about Matthews on Leno on The Paul Edwards Program Thursday at 4:00 pm ET.

This isn’t the first time Matthews has showed his liberal bias on The Tonight Show. See this NewsBusters.org piece about Matthews’ appearance on The Tonight Show in October of 2006. Scroll through the newsbites to get to the story.
