My thelogical differences with T. D. Jakes aside, the prominent African-American pastor from Dallas has fired a shot at the Mormon Church’s history of racism. How will candidate Romney respond?
This from the Bible Belt Blogger:
Bible Belt Blogger: T.D. Jakes weighs in on biracial kids’ ‘curse’
The Book of Mormon states in 2 Nephi chapter 5that in order to punish “white” and “delightsome” but sinful Native Americans, “the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. …And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with the same cursing.”
So was dark skin the result of a divine curse and did God curse the “seed” (or offspring) of biracial couples? Through his publicist, Bishop T.D. Jakes weighed in today on the second half of the question.
“Please assure the writer that both my siblings married outside of our raceand all my nephews and nieces are bi racial and NOT cursed!”
Warmly

Paul and Don,
I understand all of what you are saying. I know the Biblical interpretation. The Nation will hear his comments as “WOMAN SUBMIT!!!!!”. Don, my point is, Huck’s challenge to become president is a popularity contest. Can you imagine how much this will be rehashed if Clinton and Huck win in their respective parties?
Also Paul, your explaination is perfect and one that I like to view as good for my marriage however, it has been abused and taken out of context AND people will use those cases and run with them.

It was popular with the apostle Paul also. Plenty of verses to support this, but mind you, the press has as always, as in this case, distorted the full picture. And you’re correct, this position is not popular nationally, but then, neither is Christ.
Pixelmaster,
As a Baptist pastor myself I can assure you that Governor Huckabee does not now, nor did he at the time in question, hold to a position that women are “subservient” to men. The biblical word is “submission” and the two words don’t mean the same thing.
The Greek word translated “submit” or “submission” in the context of a woman’s relationshiop to her OWN husband (not to men in general) is a military term which means to “fall in under.” The meaning of the word is that as husbands cherish and honor their wives, the godly response of the woman is to willingly – not by the coercian of her husband – respond to his care and honor by putting herself under his protection. The biblical view is not that men are superior to women or even that husbands are superior to their wives, but rather that in God’s order of things the man is to love, cherish, provide and protect and the woman is to receive that love by putting herself willingly under him.
I know that in our culture many will find even that explanation problematic. But the way the MSM is interpreting Huckabee’s position on women is a far cry from the position he actually holds.
I expect that if Ronmey is forced then Huck might have to answer his Calvinist positions on women, the comments he made back in 1998 about a woman’s postion in the home be subservient to the man in the same way that the church is to Christ. I know that is a popular position to members of this blog but it certainly is not popular nationwide.
