Chris Matthews is losing it

Just two minutes ago (7:39 pm on Monday, July 7) MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was introducing Democratic strategist David Saunders and Republican strategist George Lemieux to talk about how McCain and Obama can reach across the “Blue vs. Red State” divide and he asked, “How did the Republicans get the color red? That’s a communist color, red.”

He just concluded the interview by identifying the Democratic strategist as “a regular white guy” and the Republican strategist as “a Republican white guy.” Huh? Wha?

No bias in the mainstream media?

  1. Ben, the thing is, that Fox puts out the idea of fair and balanced as if it is. Even Mr Edwards seems to think it is NOT biased or even somehouw left leaning. Both ideas I find very strange.

Another thing, unlike FoxNews who would like to portray even handedness, MoveOn is clearly Bias, they make no bones about it. By stating fair and balanced Fox News would like people to think they are not biased and can be somehow trusted…..

  2. I guess we have to respectfully disagree on this issue. In my opinion the only difference is that FoxNews does not hide their biases, whereas all the other network take this air of superiority and claim to be objective. The later is much more dangerous. You said it yourself that you knew about FoxNews bias even when you were on the “right side” 🙂 It is not hidden, like the other networks. And this is not only about individual reporters, it’s the network executives that force their opinions down to people we see on TV.
You also said: “BTW, as I stated earlier, if a film is put out by a bias group on the left like MoveOn it is a clear indication that Fox is the enemy, thus proving the point of how biased they are.”
Wow! Talk about a logical fallacy. I think this just did it for me.

  3. Yes, Fox is MORE biased, as I said it is an extension of the Republican party.

I think other pundits show bias, but Fox as a whole is clearly one sided. The other cable outlets have a variety of conservative and liberal guys on, if Fox has a liberal on they certainly have a conservative to overpower the liberal voice. IE. Hannity and Colmes, Hannity the pretty boy conservative and Colmes the squirrelly liberal that can’t stand up to Hannity.

    MSNBC –
    Morning Joe – Conservative
Chris Matthews – Centrist (This post is about how Matthews is losing his mind because he is now siding with liberals, maybe like me he saw the light of conservatives and has changed.)
    Keith Olbermann – Liberal
Dan Abrams – Centrist (used to be very right leaning, not showing left leaning most likely because the ratings are going that direction)

    CNN
American Morning – Conseravtive – Kiran Chetry came from Fox.
    Situation Room – Conservative
    Lou Dobbs – Centrist libertarian
    Larry King – Centrist
    Anderson Cooper – Liberal

    FOX-
    Fox and Friends – Conservative
Special Report – Try to find a true liberal on the panel
    O’Rielly – Conservative
Hannity and Colmes – I already addressed the format.

It is very one sided, the other network atleast make an attempt to cover all views, with Fox there is no question.

BTW, as I stated earlier, if a film is put out by a bias group on the left like MoveOn it is a clear indication that Fox is the enemy, thus proving the point of how biased they are.

Also, there is a reason why Obama resisted to be interviewed on Fox, they are the enemy of the left. You don’t see this resistance on the right to boycott other networks because they are NOT as baised. I truly can’t believe I am arguing this point because it is pretty obvious, it was to me even when I was in the right wing side of things.

  4. Pixelmaster, so you honestly think that FoxNews is more biased than all the other networks. Please don’t use Outfoxed as an objective resource. Here is who made that movie: http://www.outfoxed.org/Credits.php “This Film Made Possible By:The Members of MoveOn.Org” That’s like having Hitler giving us a lecture about compassion.
You can’t take seriously a biased movie about a biased network.
Again, to make myself clear, I believe FoxNews are as biased as the rest of the networks, not more, not less. The problem is that their bias is in minority throughout the current networks.

  5. If you read my earlier post on this you would understand that I think most “News” is aweful, there are very few respect “journalist” in the media. Corperate ownership has corrupted most media outlets. I also think that individual pundits show their true colors from time to time(ie Olbermann). That said, I don’t think that any other media outlet, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN is literally an extention of a political party or as transparent as Fox is for the Republican Party. It is crystal clear. Take a look at Outfoxed when you get a chance and tell me if it not.

  6. Pixelmaster, I hope you don’t believe that only FoxNews is biased, or for that fact that they are more biased than the regular networks. The only difference is that FoxNews is the only major news network that leans to the right, whereas all the others lean to the left. So, to only call out FoxNews is misleading.
There is nothing more dangerous than hidden biases. FoxNews might be new at it, so maybe that’s why their bias is so blunt. However, they got a lot better at it. But, they’re not even close to the other major networks. They have been doing it for years.
Just try an experiment this evening. Take 3 major networks and FoxNews and go through the list here:
    http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/resources/educational/handouts/broadcast_news/bw_bias_in_the_news.cfm

G.K. Chesteron said once: “Impartiality is a pompous name for indifference, which is an elegant name for ignorance.”
Impartiality should be our ideal, but true impartiality it’s hard to achieve.Especially, when networks have strong special interests to present the news in a certain way.

  7. For those who think Fox is not biased. Ask yourself, is this fair and balanced or is this an attack against a politician??

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ_kR8nP1Tc

I am sure Nancy will say it is fancy editing but I think the point is that there is a message that Fox and it is parrot in all broadcasts.

BTW for those who want to research this further Google Outfoxed, great documentary on the shame that is Fox”News”.

  8. Benjamin…Great post! *: ) I still like Bill Moyers’ stories even if they are slanted…he’s a great story teller. He and his wife did a series on death and dying a few(??) years back that was really excellent… the physical, practical side. My dad had just died after 18 month in an extended care home and some of the facts about the approaching death in the elderly were very educational and helpful.

  9. Pixelmaster, Bill Moyers? I lost all my respect for him when he interviewed pastor J. Wright. It was a shameful display. Talk about a biased journalist. That being said, there’s not one network out there that is even closely objective.
Media has a huge power. Media can bring you up (see Obama) or bring you down (see Hillary). Media nowadays reminds me of the old testament false prophets who worked on the same concept: tell people what they want to hear. Telling the truth is not popular. And if a newscast is not popular… well it dies. So, rather than giving us the truth, the media gives us what we want to hear. That’s why certain people get their news from CNN, where others get theirs from FoxNews.
So, Paul it’s great to see that you are watching even a show that is leaning different than you.I think that is the secret, we have to listen to all, but think for ourselves.
Also, it’s good to know that at the end of the day, God is still in control. And the truth shall be revealed one day.

  10. It is not part of the government technically, when you understand that govenment is by the people and for the people it is necessary to have a press that hold administrations accountable to the people. Unfortunately, with deregulation and corperate ownership we don’t have anything close to that. If a multinational corperation is going to make money off of war you can bet they are going to be soft on holding an administration’s feet to the fire when they are deceiving the public into a war.

  11. anchors read a script written by someone else but they usually edit it themselves and very few actually follow the teleprompter…

and if we had a “fourth branch” of govt dedicated to the media we might just end up like China. All propaganda, all the time. If you watch international news stations in China and a story starts to be reported about something negative about China, the screen will go blank.

  12. Of course they read from script…all professionals do!
Can you even guess how rinky dink they would sound it they didn’t!

  13. BTW, anchors read from scripts, teleprompters. Who is creating that script?

  14. This is actually very shocking, Paul, it seems that you are actually indicating that Fox is NOT right wing? Every opinion is dictate from Roger Ailes, Republican strategist in the 80’s and early 90’s. It is very strange to hear something put forth the idea that it is not biased to the core. Even when I was in the right wing camp I realized this. I suppose you are going to say that Drudge, Rush and Michael Savage are not right wing either. I really am in awe here, there are websites dedicated to reporting just how unbalanced Fox is. If your response is that they are left wingers, it would just be a validation of how right wing Fox”News” is. Truly strange. God Bless with that man…….

  15. You’re grasping Pixel my friend! Fox News removed E.D. Hill as anchor of America’s Pulse and her status with the network is pending. Individual anchors may go too far in expressing stupid opinions, but when the network brass reacts responsibly by disciplining them it certainly is an indication of where the views of the network lay, isn’t it?

  16. Paul,

How about ED Hill’s “torrorist fist jab” comment? Fair and Balance?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_vmQrTi3aM

The list of Fox’s attack against anyone who is not hardline right wing could go on forever. Left leaning, Centrist or even unbiased is not something that associates with FoxNews.

  17. Joel,

Sometimes it turns out to be more of a *sigh* and a rolling of the eyes than an actual crack up but crack up is easier to convey the point…

  18. Pixelmaster,

Do you really crack up? Because sometimes I tell people I “crack up” at something when all that really came out was a slight chuckle.

  19. I would also like to add, the idea of “democrats” and a “news” organization making friends is exactly what is wrong in this country. We no longer had journalism, outside of Bill Moyers and Amy Goodman we no longer have “news” that calls out both parties for their actions. The idea that we go to Fox for our right wing proaganda or another for left is just appauling. I like to hear Keith Olbermann rant once in a while but his own partisanship is so transparent. We need to allow the press to once again be the forth branch of government and hold the other branches accountable. I try to make a point to hear all sides of an issue before I concluded. I dont’ listen to only FoxNews, Drudge, Huffington Post or any other publication as my sole source of information, it makes it tough but eventually you can see through the propaganda and discover the truth.

A side note, I usually find “christian” news to be the worst, it is so partisan politically, that truth is absolutely lost in the stories.

  20. Don’t tell me Paul, are you ACTUALLY saying that FoxNexs is not bias to the hard right? Comon, I know you don’t think that, and with regards to hiring lefties, they do that to “improve” their hardline image. They hire very soft “lefties” to put forth an image of fairness. The organiztion is topdown all right wing and very close to the republican party. There is a reason why Hilary didn’t win the nomination, she sided with Bush and right wing policies more than not.

BTW, I am not on the left I just have the ability to call it like I see it. I have been very clear of what will happen if the left takes control of the house, senate and white house. I dont’ want to see it.

You live in a fantasy world if you actually think Fox is “fair and balanced”

  21. Pixelmaster,

I crack up when I hear someone on the left talk about Fox News bias. Very funny indeed, given that former Hillary spokesman Howard Wolfson (no conservative he) is joining the Fox News network. See the story here:

    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/07/wolfson/

The New York Times also reports that the Hillary campaign considered Fox News the fairest in of all the networks in their coverage of her campaign. See that story here:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/02/business/media/02fox-1.html

  22. I crack up when I hear someone on the right talk about media bias. Very funny indeed. Maybe it is just trying to even of the playing field with all the past right wing propganda being pushed down our throats. The MSM has been parroting Fox”News” for years, in fact folks held campaigns to beg them not to do it this time around.
