Do we all understand now why Obama and his campaign don’t want a townhall style debate with Senator McCain. This forum is THE defining moment in this campaign. I had low expectations for McCain and very high expectations for Obama.

Obama obfuscated. McCain led with clarity.

McCain: “This nomination should be based on the criteria of proven record, of strictly adhering to the Constitution of the United States and not legislating from the bench.”

Regardless of the fact Obama was a law professor and the editor of the Harvard Law Review (thanks for pointing that out Hoosier!), McCain gets the judicial philosophy spot on. Obama’s lawyer credentials just point up the fact that you can get a job teaching without a basic understanding of WHAT you are teaching.

Should we ignore it, negotiate with it, contain it, or defeat it?

Obama: “Um…evil does exist”

McCain: “Defeat it.” Grand Slam.

McCain is showing a depth of leadership and a broad knowlege of the issues at hand in his responses which Obama cannot touch.

At what point does a baby have human rights: “At the moment of conception.” Home run.

What was Obama’s long, winding, and obfuscated response?

McCain: “It means I’m saved and forgiven” followed by a real life story from the Hanoi Hilton, about a prison guard who drew a cross in the sand on Christmas day: “two Christians (McCain and the prison guard) for a minute there, worshipping together.”
