We’ve just concluded our God and Culture Conference at Calvary Baptist Church in Waterford. Our theme – chosen more than six months ago – “The Sovereignty of God,” could not have been more timely given the chaos in the financial markets and the near certainty that Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States.
How comforting to know that our God not only KNOWS in advance what is coming – He ORDAINS in advance what is coming!
My thanks to Steve Camp for his heart for God and reformed theology which bleds through his music and preaching. Dr. Don Kistler did an outstanding job defining God’s Sovereignty biblically and then laying out the implications of God’s sovereignty practically in our daily lives.
Pastor Michael Elliott showed us how God providentially brings us to a place where we can experience the guilt necessary to truly experience God’s grace. Pastor Bob Johnson took our guilt and nailed it to Jesus’ cross, an event in time premediated by a Sovereign God in eternity. My nephew, Michael Edwards, did an outstanding job of moving us out of the heady world of theology into the sometimes messy world of practice and mission. Pastor Dan Cummings – through tears – brought the ternal word of a Sovereign God to bear on the reality of our suffering.

Paul, I know several people who were there this weekend and ALL reported being fed in an incredible way. Praise God for the time you were all able to spend together.

It was a great conference Paul, exactly what I needed to hear. It is pretty frustrating with everything going on around us and to be reminded that God is ALWAYS good and He is always sovereign, in good times and bad, when we are happy and when we are suffering. More of God’s people need to sit under this sort of teaching.
