Biting the hand that elected you

Two days into his presidency and the honeymoon appears to be winding down for President Obama, at least from the perspective of the establishment media as represented by the White House Press Corps.

As one of his first acts as president, Mr. Obama announced that his administration would be marked by a new transparancy. He then barred television cameras and news photographers from his second swearing in and refused to answer a reporters question about his Deputy Defense Secretary nominee’s ties to lobbyists.

Traditionally news photographers have been admitted to the Oval Office to capture candid moments of the new president on his first day. Obama barred the photographers, instead distributing official White House photos of his first few hours in the Oval Office, characterized by the White House Press Corps as “photo press releases.”

As reported by Politico.com, the New York Times is not amused that then President-elect Obama denied them the traditional free-wheeling interview it had always conducted with the incoming president.

Now that the election is over, it seems Mr. Obama has forgotten that it was his friends in the main stream media who worked tirelessly to get him elected in the first place. Remember Chris Matthews’ “thrill up my leg” after one of Obama’s campaign speeches? Politico reports,

“…getting one’s message across through establishment media isn’t the only option for the new administration. The Obama campaign proved that one could skirt around the mainstream media at times, whether by blasting out text messages to millions of supporters (the Biden pick), or leaking to select news outlets and blogs as a means of getting out the day’s talking points out.”

Watch for the hand that Obama is biting to bite back with a vengence. Obama may have quickly forgotten the media that elected him, but the main stream media’s memory isn’t that short.

Covering (Up) Obama

The main stream media’s covering for Barack Obama on his relationship with Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich is predictable, laughable, and tragic. The only reporter really doing any kind of investigative journalism on the connection between Obama and Blagojevich is ABC’s Jake Tapper.

On this morning’s edition of MSNBCs Morning Joe (Wednesday, December 10), the host, Joe Scarborough, attempted to make the connection but was roundly silenced by his own panel – liberals all – including his co-host Mika Brzezinski, and panelists Harold Ford, Jr. and Mike Barnicle.

Ford and Barnicle characterized the relationship between Obama and Blagojevich as “a typical political relationship”: the pols smile with arms around each other in front of the cameras, but when the cameras are off they really have no relationship at all. Amazingly this defense has worked for Barack Obama with all of his questionable relationships, including Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and William Ayers. Now add the corrupt governor of Illinois to the list.

The facts bear out that Obama’s relationship with the corrupt governor of Illinois goes beyond merely smiling for the cameras.  Jake Tapper notes Obama endorsed Blagojevich in 2002 and 2006 and “served as a top adviser” to Blagojevich when he ran for the Illinois house in 2002. Obama also served as one of “the top strategists of Blagojevich’s 2002 gubernatorial victory.” Tapper quotes President-elect Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel:

[President-elect Obama and myself] participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two [an aide to Blagojevich and Blagojevich’s campaign co-chair].

In August of 2006, Barack Obama told a crowd at an Illinois State Fair:

We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois.

In spite of the clear evidence for the political connection between Obama and Blagojevich, the media would have us believe that Barack Obama is above it all. How is this possible? Barack Obama cut his political teeth while immersed in the corrupt political underworld that is Chicago politics, and yet the media really expects us to believe he was “in it but not of it”?

Beyond that, the media expects us to believe that Obama never expressed interest in who would fill his now vacant U.S. Senate seat in Illinois. Asked during a press conference (held in Obama’s CHICAGO transition office!) if he had any contact with the Illinois governor’s office about his replacement in the Senate, Obama replied:

I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.

But that doesn’t quite square with what his senior adviser David Alexrod told a local Chicago news affiliate on November 22:

I know he’s [Barack Obama] talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.

Alexrod in a press release on Tuesday, December 9 retracted his previous statement, saying he was “mistaken.”
 I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.

You would think such a blatant contradiction would warrant some tough questions from the media, who would not be satisfied with a simple, “I was mistaken.”  Not so.

NBC’s chief political correspondent Chuck Todd defends Axelrod by saying it’s the job of these political spokespersons to make it look as if their boss is “on top of the situation.” From MSNBC’s Morning Joe:

Could an adviser around Obama want to always make it look like Obama was on top of the situation and may have over spoke in that way?

Can you imagine White House Press Secretary Dana Perino making such a retraction relative to a corrupt political connection to President Bush and the main stream media simply accepting it and writing it off as “her job”?

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is on record as stating it’s his job to make sure Obama succeeds. Obviously he speaks for all of the main stream media who clearly have no intent of examining Barack Obama’s corrupt political connections. They refused to do it during the campaign. Why should we expect any less from them now.

Guest Blogger: An Open Letter to President-Elect Barack Obama

by Bryce Edward Johnston
First of all, please allow me to add my congratulations to those of others on your election to the Presidency of the United States. Upon your inauguration, you will join just forty-three other men who have held this office in 216 years. It is not only a privilege and an honor, but an awesome and grave responsibility.
 You are becoming the President. You are not becoming our master, our ruler, our overseer, or our king. When you take office, I will be one of 300 million Americans who will become your employer.

In spite of, or possibly because of some of the information coming out in the media, I would like to make you aware of a few things I’m not sure you understand.

For starters, with only 53% of the vote, you do not have a mandate to inflict wholesale changes on the form of government we now enjoy. I would like you to know that I have not lived for over 56 years in a free and open society only to see those God-given freedoms taken away. I am not now, nor ever will be, a ward of the State; I am a free man.

I did not, nor will I work to produce wealth only to see you confiscate it in the name of “fairness” and “redistribution.”

I did not go through training classes and licensing to own a firearm only to see you send out minions to take it away from me.

I did not produce and raise three sons only to see them live as serfs under an Obama regime.

Finally, I did not serve six years in the United States Navy to protect this Nation and its Constitution only to see you assume office and trash everything we have stood for for over two centuries.

So, I want you to know, Mr. President-elect, that if you honor our Constitution in the Spirit and Letter in which it was written, including and especially the First and Second Amendments, I will be your staunchest supporter.

However, if, as I expect you will, you move to eliminate political speech with which you disagree, by re-instituting the Fairness Doctrine, or other measures that destroy conservative and Christian talk radio;
If you interfere with the basic right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for the purposes of self defense as well as sport;
If you deploy a “domestic army” to spy on us, regulate us or otherwise interfere with our God-given rights;
Or, if you enact draconian tax laws that destroy the Engine of small business that creates the majority of jobs in America:
Then, you will have me and over 58 million, (I suspect more) Americans to answer to.

So, Godspeed, Mr. Obama in your endeavors as our 44th president.

I pray that after you place your hand on the Holy Bible, raise your right hand to God, and swear to “preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic” that you will do just that.
That you will not become one of those “domestic enemies” of our Constitution, and realize the gravity of the Office you have taken on.
Yes, the Constitution is flawed, but only inasmuch as it was written by Men. You would be hard pressed, though, to find more inspired and inspiring prose outside of Holy Scripture.

My prayer for you is that you will be humbled by the knowledge that you stand on the shoulders of giants,  who have kept this nation free and prosperous for over 232 years.

President-elect Obama, may you rely on God to light your path.

Sincerely,

Obama’s Promise to ACORN: December 1, 2007

On December 1, 2007 Barack Obama met with the Heartland Democratic Presidential Forum, organized by Deepak Bhargava who lobbied congress on behalf of ACORN to lower credit standards which has produced the present economic crisis. At the end of this clip Obama promises ACORN and other “community organizations” a seat at the table crafting economic policy!

Either Obama has run out of things to say…

…or he has finally cracked under the pressure of the campaign. Here he is at a campaign stop in West Philadelphia, PA on October 11, 2008:

“Pie. That’s what I want. Do you make pie? What kind of pie do you make? Sweet Potato Pie? I like Sweet Potato Pie! I’m thinking about having a Sweet Potato Pie contest here in Philadelphia…”

Say what? Has he lost his ever lovin’ mind?!
