WASHINGTON (BP)–President Obama Monday named June as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month” issuing a proclamation that goes even further than those of former President Clinton in its pro-homosexuality slant.
Clinton was the last president to issue such a proclamation, first doing so in 1999 and then in 2000 before he left office. Obama’s 572-word proclamation calls for ending the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy — which was put in place under Clinton — and also includes the phrase “transgender” for a first time. Clinton’s proclamations never referenced transgenderism, a category that includes cross-dressers and people undergoing sex change operations. Another first: Obama’s proclamation reiterates his support for same-sex civil union laws.
President George W. Bush never issued a proclamation commemorating Gay Pride Month. Clinton’s proclamations differed from Obama’s in calling June “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month,” leaving out “bisexual” and “transgender.”
“The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done,” Obama’s proclamation reads. “During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.”
The proclamation is posted on the White House website but is difficult to find and as of Tuesday afternoon was not listed under the website’s category of proclamations — a fact that some homosexual activists were criticizing.
It is very Interesting that during the Campaign for the Presdencidency Mr Obama claimed himself to be a Christian. Now that he is the Presdient he won”t even mention the name abovr all Names Jesus Christ The Lord!
However He will go to the Middle east & Bow before a Muslim King & now Declares the month of June to be Gay & Transgender Month. This man can change his Colors more rapidly than a Chemeleon in a Tree!

There’s a difference between separation of church and state and fostering understanding between people of different religions.
I’m not of the agreement that religions can “all just get along” in every category. As a Christian, I believe there does come a point where we have to look at other religions and point out that there is only one Truth. But that’s the role of the Church, not governement.
Obama is not preaching Islam or making it the one-world religion. What he is doing is pointing out the need for understanding between nations and taking the first steps toward diplomacy. Thanks to a vocal minority that has caused tragedy in the world, there is a perception that Islam is a bloodthirsty religion full of hateful people. And while that faction does exist–and it exists n every religion, including Christianity–the vast majority of Muslims around the world are peaceful, understanding people. Like Christianity, it’s when legalism takes hold (I’m not going to use the word Fundamentalism because Christian Fundamentalism gets a bad rap) and people seek to enforce their beliefs on others that things get dangerous. And Obama has also brought that out as well in his commitment for the U.S. to help support education of female Muslims to help them be independent, should they so desire.
I think separation of Church and State would also include separation of Mosque and State, as well.
I’m proud of President Obama. Equality under the law is the foundation of this country. The separation of church and state has been a rule of law since written by Thomas Jefferson in 1801 in the Danbury letter.
Well, Obama didn’t start National Gay Pride month. And as the article states, this appears to be an issue of partisian importance…Clinton signed, Bush didn’t. I’m sure there were days like “National Gun Rights Day” or “National Day of Waste Money Buying Tea to Protest Wasteful Spending” that Bush signed off on…it’s pure politics.
And, if you’re not gay, don’t celebrate. And if you’re worried about what to tell your kids…well, it’s not the government’s role to tell them that homosexuality is wrong. It’s yours and the church’s. On moral issues, the church should stand apart…I for one think it’s an opportunity for parents to tell kids, “Gay people are no more evil than anyone else. But don’t look at this and say it’s something to be proud of, because it is sin. The same sin as everything else.” We look at these as strikes against Christians being the majority–when the Bible always promises us we’ll be the minority–instead of seeing it as an opportunity for us to speak the truth…in love…something that is often sorely missing in political discussions.
By the way, I’m all for ending don’t-ask-don’t-tell. There is not one good reason for having that rule. Anyone who wants to serve should be able to do so…because I’m not going.
