McCain actually cites a real life moral failure in responding to the question! Did Obama?
UPDATE: Obama cited “drug and alcohol use as a teenager.” Who among us isn’t guilty of youthful indiscretions? On the other hand, McCain faced down one issue evangelicals find problematic with McCain: his adultery and divorce. He did so candidly.
The two answers do not compare in terms of the political danger represented.
FYI, what I saw the other night on TV was about 20 minutes of McCain’s part, and I did think at the time that he seemed to have done very well indeed. He almost won me over (and I planned to vote for NEITHER of them).
However, after reading through the entire transcript for myself I have a very different view of this. I honestly had no agenda going into this other than to discern where they are coming from, and I think they both made it quite clear.
Thank you, Rick Warren!
Dang, I’m sorry in advance piling on here, but it has to be done…
Which is more dangerous and has more far-reaching consequences – getting drunk/high or breaking your vows? So, Obama hasn’t sinned enough to make him “worthy”, is that it? And you trust McCain MORE because he’s unfaithful? This post is non-sensical.
Obama actually seems to “get” the connection between his faith and practice, and is thoughtful in terms of trying to work it out in the public arena. McCain simply says the magic words “saved and forgiven” and then goes off on another one of his control-the-moment stories, without ever explaining how his faith impacts his life on a daily basis (just some tired story he’s repeated for decades).
Maybe we aren’t talking about the same event – could that be it? I can’t believe this disparity… (shakes head in amazement)
