…why it is when a tragedy like 9/11 occurs people ask, “Where was God?” and when a miracle like US Airways Flight 1549 no was says, “THERE is God!”
Not to take anything away from the skill and heroism of the pilot, but if we blame God for the actions of radical terrorists on 9/11, shouldn’t we also credit God with the actions of a skilled pilot on 1/15?
I think Agur hit the nail on the head:
“Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die:
Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,
lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” Proverbs 30:7-9

Could it be the old, “There are no atheist in a fox hole” syndrome? In crisis our humanistic populace is either praying or cursing. In the “good” times man is in control so mention of God would be pointless…
