  5. Try a few with the word “TITHE” and talk to those who actually practice this form of economics and see what you find out. *: )

    I’m sure you’ll find verses with the words “faith” and “promise” in them somewhere in the Bible. All we have to do is sandwich them together out of context and we can take up a “faith/promise” offering. Then we can build that gymnasium we’ve always wanted so we can play basketball while the homeless and destitute sit on the sidelines and watch how blessed we are. 😉

  7. you got it, they more interested in their own kingdom then the essentials, the poor and needy. I rec’d a letter from my pastor the other day say that even though giving in 2008 was up by 12% for the year he was disappointed that members were not giving up to their “commitments”. Where is that in the new testament?

  8. What about Kingdom of God economics? Is it capitalist free market? Is it socialist? Is it something different, higher, nobler? Shouldn’t that be our driving focus? I fear the church in this country has embraced the American Dream as its definition of what is right and good instead of God’s dream articulated through His only begotten Son.

    Sorry if I come off harsh sometimes, but I am… It’s just kind of how me, my wife, and my friends communicate with each other…. We should have been born in New York. You should see when me and my accountability partner get together, we may as well hit eachother in the face with sledgehammers… Anyways I agree with you pix we need to find out what is truth, even in things like economics, and see how they best apply to the current situation. The way a free market looked in the 18th century will not do in the 21st. I guess its the same principles, but a different form

    You make a lot of great points, however, just like the liberals are not the same, neither are the conservatives. When GWB puts the foxes in charge of the hen houses in the evironmentals and economic standard of our society then corruption and choas will insue. Much of the subprime mortgage crisis is largely due to deregulation, many of the environmental and health issues we have are due to deregulation. This is why I call for centrism, there are good ideas like regulation of industry, and multinational corperations on the left and free use of market capital on the right. We need to stop being devided and come to the middle and do what is best for this country. You are a bright guy Colin, I appreciate your perspective….

    So do we operate off of pragmatism or situation ethics? Free market economies do not promise a perfect world, and there will be hard times. However, this does not disprove free market economics and legitamize socialists policies. And even if you argue that they are just to remedy a few things here and there, free market capitalism will not work with socialism, it will end up throwing everything off. Then the free market will get even more screwed up and the liberals go, “see its because of the free market we need MORE socialism”, then it goes wrong even more and they continue claiming that their utopian sounding system is the answer when it is the problem. By the way the liberals mentioned in the blog post who did all of that were not the liberals that you see today. It was the democrats who were for slavery in the 19th century, and that in no way proves it is a rascist party today. I believe the governments job is for the most part law, order, and defense period. Corporations who dirty up water or place harmful chemicals in food or in the air are harming the population, and therefore are rightfully regulated under the above outlines for a government’s job in society.

  14. No I haven’t but I certainly listen to a lot of right wing talk radio an that is the overwhelming consensus. You Young, inexperienced folks are being duped. As if we can’t see how much damage voting for the right has done already to this nation….
