Could it be that the reason Mike Huckabee isn’t endearing himself to social conservatives is because he is a Baptist? And not just any kind of Baptist but a Southern Baptist – in every sense of the word? Is there a Baptist bias at work against the Huckabee campaign?
Steve Hays over at Triablogue wonders aloud if Baptist bias is at work:
Why is it that so many Evangelical leaders are endorsing the Mormon candidate rather than the Baptist candidate?
Of course, we know their stated reasons, but there may also be an unspoken reason. To be tactless, Romney is Camelot to Huckabee’s Gomer Pyle. I’m not saying that this comparison is the least bit fair. I’m just suggesting that it may be the elephant in the room.

Yeah, that is funny because I was trying to think of what Huckabee reminded me of and this pinpoints it. Americans are pretentious, they could never vote a guy in with that stigma and a name of Huckabee (I think it is a stupid mindset, but it is the way we are). I heard someone say yesterday that Huckabee seemed to be OK with the idea of being VP. Maybe a Romney/Huckabee ticket would satisfy the social conservatives. Huckabee’s stances on taxes and border security will continue to hurt him with many on the right…..in fact, I was listening to a liberal show yesterday and the guy mentioned that he liked a lot about Huckabee except he thought that he was crazy for thinking the world is 6000 years old and not believing that the evolution is true. Other than that he liked a lot about Huckabee. I think we need to take note why this person likes him and not simply vote for him because he is Pro-Life and Anti Gay Marriage.
