John Hagee: Jesus wasn’t the Messiah

In this new ad for his book, In Defense of Israel, Hagee has solidified himself as a first class heretic. He and his ministry should be rejected outright by orthodox evangelical Christians.

  1. Ken, I have seen your work on other blogs, I think this one is more to your tune, unlike CRN.info….

  2. Ken

You also get honorable mention in todays FBNS, from David Cloud. BTW, great quotes on the “spirituality” movement in this mailing today.

I stay overwhelmed at the vast valley of God’s grace. To consider all that is under the cloak that covers sin, combined with all of our two cents worth.
“And Can it Be, that I should gain” !

  3. Wow, the infamous Ken Silva is on this blog. Paul this blog is really starting to make traction.

  4. Has anyone read the Hagee’s book? This just sent a chill down my spine. Why is this man still on TV and preaching? But then again most who are on TV preaching seem to have departed from the faith. Please tell me people are leaving his church in large numbers.

  5. K~,

If you are interested in TULIP the following link is a series of explanations of the doctrines by John Piper.

    http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Seminars/1727_TULIP_Part_1__Introduction/

These lectures are a fairly typical and well done introduction. Like any position or movement there are variations among those that hold the opinions but most of the things that makes Piper different from traditional Reformed teachers are not discussed here anyway.

  6. It is is a acronym for the Reformed Theology position.

The “T” in the word TULIP is for Total Depravity.

The second letter in TULIP is for Unconditional Election.

The third letter in TULIP is for Limited Atonement.

The fourth letter in TULIP is for Irresistible Grace.

The fifth letter in TULIP is for Perseverance of the Saints.

Way too much to discuss in detail here. Much info on the web however.
    Two good places to start are with John Piper’s site;

    and Lawrence Vance’s site

    Good researching to you.

  7. Thank you all for your kindness in response to my post. I compliement you Kevin on your wisdom and insight into this issue. I too agree that 2 ways of salvation isnt scriptural. Likewise I have a commitment to the plain interpretive word of God.
Don can you explain what the TULIP position is? Jerry Fawell was on the Board of CUFI, now his son is.

  8. Kevin

Setting aside from whence we land on this issue, your response is well mannered and non combative. Your to be complemented.

  9. This reasoning in Hagee is the result of a trajectory that begins in old style dispensational teaching. To be certain Hagee goes beyond the claims of those early teachers but his dispensational hermeneutic has led to this radical distinction. The early teachers such as Scofield maintained a metaphysical distinction between Israel and the Church. Even teachers like Ryrie, Chafer, and Ironsides hold to a separate economy in the soteriology for Israel. The teachings have been modified significantly in recent years taking on more aspects of covenant theology but the early doctrines clearly trend with the kind of thinking that Hagee demonstrates here.

I think that both the traditional dispensational and covenant theological systems have issues. What is important is what can be derived from the Word of God directly. I respect and love many dispensationalists whom I respect. However, I pray that Hagee’s extremism would cause those who hold to the dispensational view to further examine the interpretive foundations of what he is saying.

Again, to be clear, I have a committment to a plain interpretation of God’s word, the belief in a future role of Israel, a literal millenial kingdom and that there are many distinct promises to Israel to be literally fullfilled. But the idea of two economies of salvation is a dispensational idea that I do not find to be biblical. My intent is not to attack the followers of any particular system but rather to admonish all of us to recognize that the plan of salvation is eternal and that we as Christians are partakers in the promises to those who are the children of God, promises that were first delivered to Israel.

May God grant us grace and peace as we all examine ourselves as the Bereans did.

  10. So be it. It was the rest of the words I was referring to, but not a big issue. Like I stated, I will reserve judgment until I read the context. It should be an intriguing read.
Hope you have a great show today.

  11. Don,

I don’t recall that when Jerry Falwell said that limited atonement was “heresy” that it caused any great stir. As a matter of fact, when I played that clip of Falwell for John MacArthur, one of America’s leading Calvinist evangelicals, his first words were, “I love Jerry.”

  12. And by the way, K, you can “feel” all you want, and frankly Israel needs all the friends it can get. But the minute you let sentimentality take precedence over the clear teaching of Scripture, you are treading on dangerous ground.

“No one comes to the Father but by Me.” – Jesus (John 14:6)

  13. Am I supposed to believe that unless we are perfect, we have no right to point out a heretical teaching? Come on, folks! On the surface such sentiments seem noble and gracious, but we were told to contend for the faith, and to give great attention and care to doctrine.

To suggest that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah, and that Jewish people are exempt from the necessity to trust in Him is more than just “another point of view”. It is heresy.

But I guess nobody can say that, because it isn’t “loving”. I’ll say it, because by the grace of God I’ve started caring more about the truth and less about what people might think of me.

  14. I believe I will order the book to see what His angle is and reserve judgment at this point. You all remember when Jerry Falwell refereed to most of you as teaching “heresy” ? What a stir this caused and then as soon as he went home, the praise started. The facts are Jerry was always ecumenical and never really waived much from most of his original positions, including the position on TULIP.
I wonder what will be said of this brother, (that is what he is), when his story is written.

And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

    In Christ supporting graciousness,

  15. Blinded and mean spirited, I would have to call most of these posters incuding Paul this time. 1st off-Im not going to defend the persanality of this man that some of you are.Labeling dog, wolf, heretic.
I believe It is bibical to show uncontitional love to the jews that have been blinded to Jesus as the Christ. Jesus is my savior. He is Gods only begotten son. Jesus is not on the thrown on the earth right now, the devil is having his way on the earth right now. Jesus allowed worship(done by some not all) when he walked the earth but he had the role of the suffering servant. His role as the Lion of Juda will be when he comes back. At that time all will bow and he will rule fully.
The jews blindness will be lifted and he will be recognized.
I understand that the bible says that Jesus is the only way to salvation. I also know that God is bigger than what we finite people can imagine. God does have unconditional love and the jews are his chosen people.
Israel is under heavy attack and Christians cant even put their good book down for a minute and think. They have to beat them in the head with it or take their friendship away if they dont convert. Im going to let God be God confess Jesus is my Lord, and be a friend to the Jews who arent out to do Christians any harm. I have to admit I appreciate the fact that the Jews held tight to the One God concept and didnt bow to Cathosism in the past, and in whom roots the Christ did come (even though they dont realize it yet).
Is it so bad of me to possible believe that God has a special feeling for the Jews( that have been percuted for so long) and that he just might show them some extra mercy at some time…I think may be..

  16. By the way, for the record I am Jewish, and a believer in Jesus. John Hagee is wrong on so many counts. Jesus did claim to be the Messiah (John 4:25-26), and my people were guilty of failing to welcome Him (Luke 19:43-44).

I saw this coming a long time ago. When Mr. Hagee started hosting “A Night to Honor Israel” events about 10 years ago, he would always make sure to invite key Jewish leaders, while at the same time he always made sure to exclude Jewish Christians.

He has been seeking the applause of men. Well congratulations, Mr. Hagee, you have the applause of some men, and you have betrayed the Master who saved you (and me, a Jew) through His blood.

His name is Yeshua, Jesus, and He is the Messiah.

  17. 🙁 this makes me very sad. I do not follow his teachings closely as I would other current teachers for Christianity, but I have had a respect for him.
off hand I think he needs to read John chapter 12 about Christ coming for the very purpose of “the hour” starting in verse 27. It connects to many old testament passages such as in Danial 9 where it speaks of the Messiah being “cut off” or Isaiah 53 – the suffering servent.

  18. You are so right about the personality driven culture. People will defend others instead of defending the truth. I have a real hard time with that esp in the Christian world.

  19. I apologize for the awkwardness of my last post. What I meant to say was that instead of contending for the Faith, people will contend for a man (in this case, Mr. Hagee).

  20. Watch how people will come to his defense. Unfortunately we’ve become a personality-driven culture, and the Church isn’t immune. Instead of contending for the Faith once delivered to the saints, those of us who criticize Mr. Hagee’s error will be accused of being divisive and judgmental, et. al.

We need to listen to the Apostle Paul and stop with the “I am of MacArthur” “I am of Sproul” “I am of Hagee” (even the “I am of Calvin”).
