{"id":895,"date":"2008-11-09T23:24:44","date_gmt":"2008-11-10T03:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/godandculture.wordpress.com\/?p=895"},"modified":"2008-11-09T23:24:44","modified_gmt":"2008-11-10T03:24:44","slug":"on-disrupting-the-educational-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.godandculture.com\/blog\/on-disrupting-the-educational-process","title":{"rendered":"On disrupting the educational process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week on the radio program I related <a href=\"http:\/\/christianpost.com\/article\/20081103\/student-sent-home-for-dressing-as-jesus-for-halloween.htm\" target=\"_blank\">the story of a 13 year old student at a New Jersey public school who was sent home\u00a0on Halloween because he was dressed as Jesus Christ<\/a>. The principal insisted booting the kid had nothing to do with &#8220;the religious nature&#8221; of his costume, but rather that his costume was &#8220;disrupting the eductational process.&#8221; It is believed she said this with a straight face!<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has ever been in or around a public school on Halloween knows that the day in itself is a disruption of the educational process. But then education today really isn&#8217;t about standards of learning but rather whether at the end of the day the kids have enjoyed the process.<\/p>\n<p>Sally Thomas, a homeschool mom in North Carolina, identifies the problem with public education in one sentence in a piece she wrote for the current issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstthings.org\" target=\"_blank\">First Things<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Simply put, the educational and cultural establishments have sold out tradition and authority in favor of \u201ccollaborative-learning\u201d models and objectives like \u201cworking with every young person\u2019s sense of self.\u201d The average teenager, not surprisingly, views himself not as a student in need of enlightenment but as a kind of automatic savant.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week on the radio program I related the story of a 13 year old student at a New Jersey public school who was sent home\u00a0on Halloween because he was dressed as Jesus Christ.
