We put a survey into the field in May of 2019 that assessed the opinions of just over 1,000 Protestant Christians. We asked two questions regarding the anointing of presidents by God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first asked if all presidents are anointed by God, while the second asked if Donald Trump was specifically anointed by God to win the 2016 election. In our sample, just 21.4% believed Donald Trump was specifically anointed by God to be president, but that figure increases among groups who believe in modern-day prophets and a God who is active in the daily affairs of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BREAKPOINT: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breakpoint.org\/2019\/11\/the-point-the-children-of-man-in-the-high-castle\/\">The Children of \u201cMan in the High Castle\u201d <\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon\u2019s successful series the \u201cMan in the High Castle\u201d portrays a world in which the Nazis and Japanese won WWII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one particular scene, a teacher in this Nazi Reich America is discussing Shakespeare\u2019s \u201cMerchant of Venice,\u201d when a prim middle school girl asks, \u201cI notice Shylock says, \u2018if you prick me, do I not bleed?\u2019 Is the writer saying Jews are human?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nazi student then growls, \u201cWe shouldn\u2019t be studying this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stunned and frightened, the teacher replies, \u201cThank you for that correction. I believe you\u2019re right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a world where fanatical youth have embraced ideologies they barely understand, they are taught to dehumanize and shut down anyone who holds another point of view. Even engaging with \u201cthe other side\u201d is to risk your career and livelihoods, so the adults \u2013 the ones who are supposed to teach \u2013 are instead terrified of not being sufficiently in line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does any of this sound familiar?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>George Washington&#8217;s Thanksgiving Day Proclamation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By the President of the United States of America, a\nProclamation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge <em>the providence of <strong>Almighty God<\/strong>, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor<\/em>&#8212; and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by <em>acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of <strong>Almighty God<\/strong><\/em> especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next <em>to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of <strong>that great and glorious Being<\/strong>, who is t<strong>he beneficent Author of all the good<\/strong> that was, that is, or that will be<\/em>&#8212;
