If passed the Clergy Mandatory Reporting Act would, according to one of the bill\u2019s&nbsp;<\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/representativemelissa\/posts\/2321034168015189\" target=\"_blank\"><em>co-sponsors<\/em><\/a><em>, require \u201cthat members of the clergy report any instances of child abuse, including sexual abuse, ending the loophole of unjust cover-ups and misreporting currently occurring in our state.\u201d The \u201cloophole\u201d referred to is the&nbsp;<\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/denver.goarch.org\/clergy-communications-privilege\" target=\"_blank\"><em>priest-penitent privilege<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;that&nbsp;<\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/docs.legis.wisconsin.gov\/document\/statutes\/48.981(2)(bm)3.\" target=\"_blank\"><em>exempts&nbsp;<\/em><\/a><em>clergy from reporting abuse revealed solely in confession (\u201cthe seal of confession\u201d).&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On August 22, Paul spoke with Fr.
