Look for the rabid Romney supporters to turn their guns from Huckabee to McCain during the next five days leading up to the New Hampshire primaries.<\/p>\n
Huckabee will have a good showing in NH, and still poses a threat to the Romney campaign. But Huck’s Iowa victory gives momentum to McCain in NH, where the Republican party establishment still has a tight leash on the rank and file, and fiscal issues trump social issues. If Mitt loses there, he can lose anywhere. The GOP establishment tanks won’t stand for it.<\/p>\n
A Huckabee win in NH would certainly spell the beginning of the end for the entrenched establishment in the GOP. A more likely outcome would be for McCain to finish first – or at least ahead of Romney – given tonight’s outcome in Iowa. Look for Hugh Hewitt<\/a>, Laura Ingraham<\/a>, Ann Coulter<\/a>, and National Review<\/a> to pull a full court press against McCain every day for the next five days.<\/p>\n For Romney,\u00a0Huckabee fades to insignificance (for the time being).
