When I learned that\u00a0the armed security officer who is alleged to have shot and killed Matthew Murray, the gunman who killed two teenagers at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, CO Sunday morning, was a volunteer I knew the media would begin to question the appropriateness, if not the legality, of guns in a church.<\/p>\n
But now it’s more than that. An AP story<\/a> indicates that investigators are now saying that Jeanne Assam may not have killed the gunman at all. Their preliminary investigation indicates he committed suicide. This same report also has this piece of irrelevant information:<\/p>\n Assam is a former police officer who worked in Minneapolis from 1993 to 1997, but was fired from the department for lying during an internal investigation, Minneapolis police Sgt. Jesse Garcia said Tuesday.<\/p>\n Sgt. John Delmonico, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, said police were investigating a complaint that Assam swore at a bus driver while she was handling an incident on a city bus.<\/p>\n “In giving a statement about the incident, she was untruthful and she was fired,” Delmonico said.
