Hugh Hewitt continues to join forces with the MSM’s efforts to halt the\u00a0momentum of the only truly social conservative in the field of Republican candidates.<\/a> In response to Huckabee’s continued surge in Iowa and nationally, Hugh said this today on his blog:<\/p>\n

As Huckabee leaners shudder and bolt –whether over the quarantine, the DuMond case, or Huckanomics<\/a>— where will they go? Nobody knows, but it was a very good thing for Romney to have given a great speech just as the Huckabee campaign hit the wall.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’m not exactly sure who these “Huckabee leaners” are that are now shuddering and bolting. I’m also not sure when the Huckabee campaign exactly\u00a0“hit the wall.” Two days after Romney’s speech, Rasmussen has Huckabee with an eight point lead over Romney nationally<\/a>. If that’s hitting the wall, I hope Huck hits some more.<\/p>\n

What Huckabee has hit is the resistence of the leaders of the family values movement who are throwing a tantrum because their constituents\u00a0are ignoring their insistence that “Huckabee can’t win.” Unlike their leaders, the family values rank and file are more committed to principles than they are pragmatism and they are supporting Huckabee in spite of what Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council are saying (or not saying)\u00a0from on high.<\/p>\n

Conservative leaders want a candidate who can win regardless of his pro-choice, pro-homosexual record. The rank and file have a higher standard and they have seen that Huckabee meets that standard. So when these conservative leaders couldn’t get the rank and file to follow them in lock step they decided to join the MSM mudslinging on Huckabee.<\/p>\n

I am greatly disappointed that Hugh Hewitt would join the MSM in painting as extreme Huckabee’s position as governor on AIDS and homosexuality. Hugh goes so far as to characterize Huckabee as “Clintonesque” which is about as low as you can go, even in the heat of a political campaign. Our conservative family values leaders will have a lot of accounting to do when the dust of this campaign settles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
