After delivering the speech of his political life,\u00a0the one\u00a0Drudge headlined as “Romney on the Mount,” the former pro-choice, pro-homosexual, governor of Massachusetts (and still Mormon) Mitt Romney descended the mount back into the reality of the political campaign in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday. There he met the press and it was there the shouting began. From the account of one who was there, Mitt walked out of a press gaggle<\/a> when the questions about the illegal aliens who kept his lawn manicured\u00a0got too much to handle. The anticipated honeymoon after the speech of his life was short lived.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Mike Huckabee\u00a0continues his surge in Iowa and nationally.\u00a0 A new Newsweek poll<\/a> shows Huck leads Mitt 39% to 17% in Iowa (that’s a 2 to 1 margin). Rasmussen<\/a> has Huck as the clear front runner nationally at 21%\u00a0to Mitt’s 13%.<\/p>\n

My colleague Hugh Hewitt (and Romney supporter)\u00a0puts the best possible spin on Huckabee’s surge by citing Marc Ambinder’s observation<\/a> that “it’s always easier to beat expectations when you are expected to lose.” No one expected Mitt to lose Iowa a month ago when Huckabee was polling somewhere around 6%.<\/p>\n
