{"id":259,"date":"2007-12-05T06:43:50","date_gmt":"2007-12-05T10:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/godandculture.wordpress.com\/2007\/12\/05\/joe-carter-with-the-numbers-on-huckabee\/"},"modified":"2007-12-05T06:43:50","modified_gmt":"2007-12-05T10:43:50","slug":"joe-carter-with-the-numbers-on-huckabee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.godandculture.com\/blog\/joe-carter-with-the-numbers-on-huckabee","title":{"rendered":"Joe Carter with &#8216;the numbers&#8217; on Huckabee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The former frontrunners in the Republican race for president are attacking Huckabee, accusing him of being fiscally liberal. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.evangelicaloutpost.com\/archives\/004113.html\">Joe Carter<\/a> at the Evangelical Outpost points out:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In my new role as the Director of Research for the Huckabee campaign, I have to respond, <em>ad infinitum<\/em> to claims that Governor Huckabee is a &#8220;fiscal liberal&#8221; and an invenerate tax hiker.<\/p>\n<p>If you asked 90 percent of the people who make such a claim how much he actually increased the taxes, they&#8217;d have no clue. So let me enlighten them.<\/p>\n<p>Huckabee was Governor of Arkansas from July 1996 to January 2007. During that 10 1\/2 year period, taxes that affected all citizens increased by the following amounts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase in the income tax rates: 0 percent<\/li>\n<li>Increase in the sales tax: 1 cent<\/li>\n<li>Increase in the gas tax: 3 cents a gallon<\/li>\n<li>Increase in diesel fuel tax: 4 cents a gallon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next time you encounter a &#8220;fiscal conservative&#8221; claiming that &#8220;Huckabee is bad on taxes&#8221; ask them if they know these numbers. They won&#8217;t. They never do.<\/p>\n<p>Note: I knew that the truth would eventually get out (since I push it on people ever day). But I thought that it would come from an honest conservative journalist\/pundit\/blogger. Instead, it came from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/12\/02\/us\/politics\/02huckabee.html?pagewanted=print\"><strong><font color=\"#003366\">The New York Times<\/font><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The former frontrunners in the Republican race for president are attacking Huckabee, accusing him of being fiscally liberal.
