Three police officers responding to a domestic violence call are killed in Pittsburgh.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

A\u00a0Vietnamese\u00a0immigrant who recently lost his job walks into an immigration center in Binghamton, NY and kills 14 people.<\/a> \u00a0<\/p>\n

A gunman bursts into a North Carolina nursing home killing seven residents and a nurse.<\/a><\/p>\n

A pastor preaching in his pulpit is gunned down by a 27 year old man.<\/a><\/p>\n

Now today we learn of a\u00a035 year old father of five in suburban Tacoma, Washington who is believed to have killed his four daughters and one son today, later killing himself.<\/a> Investigators say it is too early to say what may have motivated the killings, but if I had to guess, I would say the economy may have had something to do with it. I bet the man recently lost his job.<\/p>\n

As more men lose their jobs, and with them the ability to support their families, we may see a rise in this kind of family violence.<\/p>\n

We have been lied to in America. The lie is the American Dream. Not that the American Dream of a house in the suburbs and a two car garage with three cars and a boat to go in it is a lie. Many people certainly have achieved that and much more as a result of our capitalistic economy.<\/p>\n

The lie is that we can put our confidence in economic prosperity and ignore God. The lie is that we have the power within ourselves to get and keep wealth. The lie is what we are seeing every night on the news and every morning in our newspapers with the failure of another bank, news of massive foreclosures, and our major industries no longer able to provide the jobs needed to keep the Dream from becoming a nightmare.<\/p>\n

Now more than ever we need to point families who are pressured by the economy to the gospel. The gospel is not a lie. The gospel is the truth.<\/p>\n

The gospel says I can have nothing and yet possess all things. I don’t have to kill my family.<\/p>\n

The gospel says a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. I can lose everything and I don’t have to kill my family.<\/p>\n

The gospel says I can suffer the loss of all things and GAIN CHRIST! I don’t have to kill my family.<\/p>\n

The gospel is the secret to facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Christ. I don’t have to kill my family.<\/p>\n

The gospel says, “Though he was rich for your sakes he became poor that you through his poverty might be made rich.” Don’t kill your family.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
