I’m telling you, this guy HATES America…

Barack Obama tells a SEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL:

America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was.

  10. I think Christians should be engaged in politics, however that is different than aligning ourselves to a political party. As Christians, we stand for truth, truth that can be found in both political parties, just as lies and deception can be found in both. As I stated before, this concept has done great damage to our faith, when an administration which 85% of evangelical Christians voted for, tortures other human beings AND the evangelical community is mute about the injustice it does great damage to the faith. We wonder why young people and unchurched people look at us as hypocrites. Love thy neighbor? except those who are “enemy combatants”(the idea that we put people in jail without the ability to prove their innocence is another example of us being off course, who determines who goes to jail and for what reason, it is very subjective, the rule of law which we are founded on, doesn’t allow for that behavior.). Social justice is very much in great demand in the evangelical community, we seem to discount this as something that the liberal left only fights, we should be putting the left to shame in this area. If we weren’t a part of a political party then we could. To hate America is not to speak out when we are doing wrong, to hate America is to tell your kids that we are the greatest because we think we are. Love takes humility, it takes removing the patriotic blinders that we all have, and admitting our wrongs and telling the world we can do better in the future.

Of course, all this hating America stuff requires understanding of how we got to where we are today, how we sold WMD’s to Saddam in 80’s, how we build up the mojahadean to fight the soviets in the 80’s and finally the underlying importance of Oil.(some of these reasons were noble, some not so much) There is a whole lot that I don’t know, I do know our standing as a city on a hill no longer exists. Foreigners still love America and it’s system of equality, they are disgusted at our imperial ambitions since 9/11. We could have used 9/11 as a way to unite the world around a common cause, Iraq ruined that. To still hear that Iraq was somehow justified at this point is simply unbelievable.

  11. Seems to me, that those who think we Christians shouldn’t be in politics are the most volatile about politics…*: ) And, the political posts do turn a bit theological……with all the heat and those straw men laying about…sounds like the makings for a big bon fire…doncha think…And if all the straw men were gone…would anyone be left???

  12. re: 20, ~ so far the biggest number of posts that I’ve seen was actually about theology (the Pagitt one). I haven’t done a detailed study on that, but the politics ones seem to generate a lot more heat than the theological ones. Unfortunately, for all that heat I’m not seeing all that much light – too many caricatures, misquotes, polemics, and straw men for me. But certainly lots of heat, which may come in handy next January. 😉

  13. Paul, now that things have cooled down some I wanted to comment about why I mentioned the parroting thing. it is somewhat relevent to a book that I am reading by Scott McClellan. I recall when the book came out you we all over him, you basically said everything that the entire right wing had said about him that day and the previous day. I don’t know if you read the book, but Scott makes it very clear that he is a man of faith. Here is what bothers me, Scott as a man of faith seems to be trying to come clean as a person of faith should when they feel they might have down wrong or unintentionally mislead people. This seems like the “christian” thing to do. However, I remember you all over him about this book, why, well I can only conclude because you are tied at the hip politically. This is what bothers me, if Scott is reporting the truth, then it is irrelevant, what is relevant is protecting political ally’s. Paul as a person of faith I hope you can see where another person of faith sees that as a conflict. Shouldn’t we as christians fight for truth whether it is in agreement with us politically?
I also have to say after reading this book Scott is very generous to the Administration, in fact it has opened my eyes on the assumptions that are made in the media and how images can me misconstrude. It has actually made me more sympathic to Bush. I hope you can see this, I expect this from a Rush Limbaugh, I have a conflict when I see it from a pastor of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Still love ya man, just hoping that iron will sharpen iron here…..

  14. Paul…your theological discussions pass over our heads…whoosh…*: )

    Pixel…I can speak it…not type it… *: )

    the Southern Ding Bat

  15. or more appropriately, if we put your picture on the dart board and throw darts at it……

  16. fundy,

Bob from this site created a google group for more free offline discussion that may or may not relate to these topics. I try to stay on topic but there is much more to discuss. For example, I often listen to the show and hear Paul mention something that I would like to discuss with others and Paul might not post the topic here. Come and join is, this is turning into quite the community, you have a pretty cool house, Paul, just be gracious when one of us breaks a lamp or two. HAHA.
    http://groups.google.com/group/godandculture

  17. Pixelmaster,

I hear you. Thanks for your input. Hope we can continue our discussion somehow.

  18. Fundy,

the issue is that christians too often look at everything in a dualistic way, Good v evil, God v devil, christianity v islam. I don’t think many would admit purposefully think this way but deep down I think it contributed to the painting of a broad brush, Islam = Middle East = Evil = 9/11 = Terrorism = Saddam = Our enemy. The war on terror should have started and stopped with those who did the actions of 9/11 not those who held the world #1 Oil reserves.

  19. BTW Pixelmaster – the context of Isaiah 5 is abusive and dishonest political leadership in Israel and God’s promise that He will ultimately vindicate those oppressed by corrupt political leadership by filling hell with the corrupt politicians. There you have it in a nutshell – from a quasi-theologian.

  20. Paul,

Have you ever taken a look at some of the documentary that Phil Donahue did on the soldiers coming back from Iraq? They have a lot to say not only about the injustices taking place Iraq but also with them and their injuries. I know Phil Donahue is “leftist” but take away the “agenda” and get a first hand account of it. War is never a good thing and it is inevitable that injustices will take place. That is why our leaders need to take in all knowledge about threats and not filter the ones that agree with his position. Paul O’Neil said that Iraq was on the table 10 days in to the Bush administration in 2001. 9/11 was used as a convenient vehicle, I am not saying conspiratorially(as in Bush was wiring the towers) just that it made the job that might easier to sell. Cheney even said in 1991 that to overthrow Saddam would cause us to be mired in a mess that we would have a hard time getting out of, how right he was.

  21. Paul,

I am not saying we targeted women and children, I do not believe our armed forces or our government would intentionally do that. It is interesting to note that you equated what I said about Christians to the American governments.

I was talking about Christians who are against abortion but all for bombing Iraq when we all know innocent people WILL be killed. Not intentionally, but as part of the nature of war. I am saying that Christians should not condone the taking of life, whether it be an unborn child or a child living in Iraq. Many of the Christians I know (not saying you, Paul, I do not know you personally but would love to talk to you) were almost excited by the fact that we were bombing Iraq because we were getting them back for what they had done. Does not sound like a Christian view of preserving and protecting life.

  22. Pixelmaster,

The verse you are looking for is in the book of Isaiah 5:20:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweetand sweet for bitter!

An apt description of American POLITICS, but not of America. And certainly an apt description of the kind of deception Obama is affecting in his campaign.

  23. I looked on esword, couldn’t find it. Whatever, I think y’all(that is for you Nancy) know the verse.

  24. Pixelmaster,

My son-in-laws father and mother were born and raised in Iraq. His family’s view of America’s intervention in Iraq is 180 degrees from yours. I guess it depends on who you talk to.

    Fundy,

Your perpetuation of the notion that America arbitraily dropped bombs on women and children in Iraq is once again an illustration of the kind of hatred for this country Obama harbors. Please tell me you don’t really believe that America intentionally targets women and children in warfare. You are terribly misguided if you do.

  25. Pixel… being a theologian in these days isn’t at all necessary…point your browser to BibleGateway they have a myriad of translations and commentaries. Arrange your screen as you will and see them all arrayed side-by-side….*: )

  26. Fundy,

I am in line with you 100% on that, I have such a hard time supporting a political party that seems only to put forth a token effort on the abortion issue. Yet, like you say, supports “dropping bombs on women and children in Iraq who have nothing to do with terrorism?” I know folks personally from Iraq, they still have family. Try talking to them and hearing how there family has been uprooted by the hornets nest that we uncovered. For the right to continue to spout that Iraq was about 9/11, or the war on terror is simply naive. BTW, the real terrorist, Bin Laden, still free. Completely misguided, I think many of us are tired of the unfettered support of corruption and greed in Washington in the name of a savior that I adore and cherish. a poster name d got offended because another poster on this site was being “irreverent” to his Lord. When I see my faith getting trampled on because they are tied to a corrupt war mongering political part that is irreverence to me as well. That is why I can get worked up. I wish I knew what the scripture was about in the last days good becoming evil and evil becoming good. I am not a theologian though.

  27. I am not an Obama supporter. In fact, I don’t plan to vote in the election. I am not right wing or left wing. I am conservative by nature and agree with Republicans or Democrats depending on the issue. Christians value the sanctity of life. Unfortunately, many Christians decide what life they want to protect. Abortion is wrong and Obama is wrong for supporting it. Why is it that Christians scream that abortion is wrong but support dropping bombs on women and children in Iraq who have nothing to do with terrorism? It’s a double standard. I don’t know if you’re trying to be the next Rush Limbaugh or not, but I wish the blog and the show were not so political. I want to speak the truth in love. If I failed, I was wrong.

  28. Obama is really bad for this country. He and his wife both are full of hatred. And his “It’s not fair” attitude really shows bad quality as a person that he is. (Remember when he talked about Wall Street CEOs making millions of dollars a year? Now he is making millions a year by just selling some book and he is still bitter. I guess only he is making billions a year will he stop whinning.) I can’t stand him.

  29. I also want to add that, by saying many things about today are similar to Germany in the 30’s it is also very different in that we are not doing mass executions and experiments on God’s own creation. I don’t want my comparison to get too over blown, we are better than they are but in many aspects the so-called war on terror has opened the door for poor judgment in our highest offices of government. I love this country, I want it to be a shining light to the world. The reaction to 9/11 could have been 100 times better than it was. We need to get back to being the leader to the world in values, I think that is what Obama is point out. I agree. I do also agree with Paul in that many of his other policies and positions are dangerous, I don’t like his social values positions at all. I actually like McCain’ position, and I think Campolo layed this out, everyone should have a right to a civil union, a legal contract by the state, Campolo goes further that this should be the case for hetero and homo relationships. Then if a couple wants to go before God and get married as a ceremonial act and heart commitment they should be able to do so. Finally, the state then should never tell the church who they can and cannot marry. I think this is a reasonable solution. I would hope that many of us can see that the marriage issue is not going away and that if we can stop seeing through the glass darkly then it will only hurt us in the long run.
Sometimes my comments seem liberal in the lens of the right but I truly want to find a way for out faith to be a reconciling one and not a dividing one. I want us to be known for the solutions we provide and not the issues we are against. In that sense, I hope in the future on this blog, I can be known for what I add and not how I cause conflict. I said it before I can cross the line at times and get caught up in the moment, I will try to tame that in the future you are all my family in the Lord and I want you all to know that.

  30. Paul,

It seems that when I am critical of this administration and it’s tactics and equate them to Germany you think that I hate America. This administration is rife with scandal after scandal, yet, the Christian community in large part do to talk radio gives him(and his administration) a pass. Let’s look at a few examples of how we look like Germany, Right after 9/11 Bush put forth the so-called Patriot Act, it is almost a mirror image of the enabling Act after the Reichstag burning. Let’s look at another tactic, preemptive war, Paul Iraq had no wmd’s and was not an imminent threat like it was sold to us, Hitler preemptively attacked other countries as well because he sold the Germans of the grave danger if they didn’t. How about spying on Americans? Hitler did that with his folks, it is well known the communications it not just over seas but within the country, which is illegal, that is why Bush wanted immunity. Ever hear of papers please? You remember that right? WE have the real ID act just around the corner, a national ID that is trackable. I am not being a conspiracy theorists here, these things are real and they look very much like the 1930 Germany. I was also only pointing out what a woman told to me confirming my suspicions of recent events.
It seems that you think that if anyone disagrees with the tactics that of an administration that you seem to value then they hate America, as if American is representatative of the administration that holds the power. Question: if Obama gets the presidency and starts doing thing that you don’t like and you speak out against it, would that mean that you “hate America”?

Paul, you mistake me for a liberal because I try to put some balance to the Obama posts that you create here. I appreciate your openness to allowing dissenting voices. Many sites filter dialog such as this. I think that when I say there is parroting I think in some cases it might be unintentional and just part of the way it is. I hear you all the time use Drudge as a source for News, I am sure many others use Limbaugh’s favorite news site as well which appears to be parroting. If it is at the top of the News then Limbaugh, Hannity and ultimately you will be talking about it. I am very aware of biases in the news, it is something that I have paid close attention to over the past year. I recognize when a leftist is being a leftist and parroting Huffington. I would be just as critical of them as well, except they don’t have a Rush or Hannity to put up on a pedestal. No hard feelings Paul you seemed to get pretty steamed over the comments. I don’t think it is as much of an attack on you as it is the system, which you are a part of. I sincerely apologize if I offended you it was not my true intent.

  31. b/Bo,

You didn’t call me a “Rush Limbaugh wanna be,” so I take no personal offense at your post. However, my post above gives ample evidence – with supporting links – that Obama is a hypocrite and that he indeed does HATE America. I stand by that characterization while continuing to value our personal friendship.

  32. Brother Paul,

If my comments were perceived as a character attack, then I want to publicly say that I am very sorry and I hope you can forgive me. I don’t believe character slamming was my intent, I just very much disagree with the rhetoric of saying “Obama HATES America”.

FWIW, I’m not an Obama supporter, a left wing liberal, or anything of the kind, and I think you know that. I just didn’t think your heading was fair or accurate. If we disagree, we disagree.

  33. Pixelmaster,

What you characterize as “parroting” in right-wing talk radio is called having a message. It’s called conservative values. It’s called being on the same page.

There is no more “parroting” on the right in terms of the message than there is the parroting of the liberal message that predominates in main stream media. You denigrate the conservative message because you disagree with it.

You are blind to your own hypocrisy.

  34. The comments section of my own blog is being overrun with left-wing liberal propaganda! Pixelmaster suggests that today’s America is comparable to Hitler’s Germany and no one thinks THAT comment is over-reaching? It’s comments like those that display the kind of hatred for this country that is in the heart of Barack Obama which comes out in words like those in the above video clip.

America is not a bad country because she defends herself. America is not a bad country because she uses her intelligence ability to listen in on planned attacks on her citizens, even if those planning the attacks ARE citizens. America is not a bad country because she denies constitutional rights to enemy combatants – rights to which they were never entiled in the first place. Yet you liberal propagandists and apologists for Obama suggest that all of the above make America a bad place and have the audacity to compare America in 2008 to Hitler’s Germany! THAT IS OFFENSIVE! These things you hate about America are what protect your rights to SAY SO on this blog!

Both Barack and Michele Obama do not “love America’s values.” America values life – defending it when necessary militarily rather than cow towing to the UN and the extreme liberals in Europe – and defending life from the moment of conception, something Barack Obama is on record as radically opposing. Barack Obama refuse to protect life even AFTER it has been born if the mother had attempted to abort the baby and the abortion failed. He would allow doctors to KILL the child outside of the womb. NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE HITLER’S GERMANY!!!

Barack Obama would destroy the institution of marriage by continuing the radical agenda to legitimize sodomy.

Barack Obama is in bed with supporters of terrorism, radical Islam, and the Chicago underworld (i.e. Bill Ayers). The corrupt methods he used to win his first election are well documented by David Freddoso in his book, The Case Aainst Barack Obama. Obama is the “accidental Senator” both in the State Senate of Illinois and in the United States Senate. He won his State Senate seat using corrupt methods to have all of his opponents thrown off the ballot on a technicality. He won his US Senate seat because the one opponent who would have defeated him in a landslide flamed out on stories about his personal life. In the only real political race of his life – a congressional race – Obama lost in a landslide. Now a man who cannot win STATEWIDE office on his own merits is the Democratic nominee for president of ALL the United States????

Obama’s 20 year association with Jeremiah Wright shouts loudly of his commitment to a racial theology committed to eliminating any Anglo influence in culture.

With all of Obama’s rhetoric about the “poor,” he just voted to raise taxes on the “wealthiest Americans” who are earning more than $32,000 a year or more! In addition, Obama has a long and yet to be fully revealed relationship with the convicted criminal Tony Rezko, to whom he funneled hundreds of thousands of tax-payer dollars.

You liberal posters can stick your fingers in your ear and call me a “Rush Limbaugh wannabe” all you want, but it doesn’t change the facts about who Obama is and his radical agenda to “change” American values.

When you post here you should remember that you are guests in my house. I value opposing viewpoints, but I will not tolerate personal attacks on my own character.

I have not over-reached or crossed any lines. You people are so blind to who Obama is! I am convinced that it’s a spiritual blindness inflicted by the god of this world. This blog is about bringing light to darkness. There is no question that Obama IS darkness. His defenders here can’t stand the light. “If the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

Loving the Kingdom doesn’t mean hating America. We have dual-citizenship and responsibilities in both. I love the Kingdom of God, and through this blog and my radio program I am working to implement Kingdom principles. You are free to disagree, but you are NOT free to attack my character BECAUSE you disagree. It WILL NOT be tolerated.

I have NEVER been more offended by comments posted here than I have by these comments. Consider this a shot across your bow. You will not turn my blog into a deposit for liberal crap.

  35. Fundyfailure,

Intentionally or not there is a parroting that goes on in right wing talk, there is a book by David Brock called the republican noise machine and it talks about how well organized the right wing is in talk radio. I just wish the christians would stay out of it, there is not such thing as a “christian” Rush Limbaugh, to be one you would have to be a “Christian” bigot and a “Christian” liar. I don’t think those exist as they cancel each other out. Please come back for more fundy failure, this blog is really getting interesting…..

  36. I think the message is getting through to the general public… in the end…we might want some changes…but NOT the changes this young Marxist has in mind…Can’t wait for the debates to start…the more he talks the deeper the hole gets.

Some of us old guys, who woke up one morning in ’89 to news headlines announcing the “end of the cold war” and claiming the eastern block communists were no longer evil…just didn’t buy it and still don’t.

New though.?.?.? Jesus is sooo merciful and forgiving surly if satan repents…he’ll get into the kingdom too. Well guys…I hate to tell you…he didn’t repent; the snake is still with us…oh what a mean thought..maybe I could get hired by Rush!

  37. I agree with both of you guys. I think Obama is absolutely right. Hopefully Paul is not just becoming another right-wing political pundit. It seems that so many “Christian talk show hosts” are just trying to be the next Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Definitely don’t need any more of those.

Since when is wanting America to be better mean that we hate America. I guess, according to Paul, I would be an American hater as well, because I want America to be better than it is. I pledge my allegiance to Christ alone!

  38. Bo, I am with you on this. When he says America, he is talking about our policies against others. Torture, Preemptive war, wire tapping our own citizens, it no longer feels like a free society. I was speaking to a lady a few weeks back, she and he husband actually lived in Germany during the 30’s and early 40’s. She had some great insite on how our society mirrors that of the German’s. Coincidently, the main players that enabled the leaders of Germany at the time was the church or atleast a large section, the ones that spoke out for truth were persecuted. Obama loves American values, however, our values are lost when we give the world the proverbial finger and do our own thing in effort to control Oil reserves.

  39. OK buddy, now I think you’re really over-reaching – America certainly is not what it once was and certainly is not what it could be. Can you honestly say you’re satisfied with the way things are?

Sure, I love the Kingdom of God more than I love America, so I’m already biased (as my 7/4/08 replies indicated), but we are not a “shining city on a hill” any more – just turn on the TV and it’s obvious.

I can understand you fearing Obama’s policies and stuff, but to say he “HATES AMERICA” in big bold letters is just media BS and your show shouldn’t stoop to that.
