A New Hampshire Prophecy

Look for the rabid Romney supporters to turn their guns from Huckabee to McCain during the next five days leading up to the New Hampshire primaries.

Huckabee will have a good showing in NH, and still poses a threat to the Romney campaign. But Huck’s Iowa victory gives momentum to McCain in NH, where the Republican party establishment still has a tight leash on the rank and file, and fiscal issues trump social issues. If Mitt loses there, he can lose anywhere. The GOP establishment tanks won’t stand for it.

A Huckabee win in NH would certainly spell the beginning of the end for the entrenched establishment in the GOP. A more likely outcome would be for McCain to finish first – or at least ahead of Romney – given tonight’s outcome in Iowa. Look for Hugh Hewitt, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, and National Review to pull a full court press against McCain every day for the next five days.

For Romney, Huckabee fades to insignificance (for the time being). Don’t be surprised if come Monday (the day before the NH primary) there isn’t some damaging news for the McCain campaign.

  1. I am sure the push polling that he is doing in NH will help Huckabee’s cause. Bush did it against McCain so why not Huck…
