The part about 9/11 is so valid, folks say “well, atleast we have been safe since then” but they fail to forget he was the one who was in charge at the time of 9/11. He ignored warnings that it was imminant. Then he stonewalled any efforts to find out what really happened, thus helping a cottage industry of conspiracy theories about 9/11. The depth and breadth of Mr. Bush’s failures are obvious to anyone who pays attention, and to think that Paul here says that those who still support him are “true americans”. Those who still support him, either got very rich off of Bush, are lying about him, or are too ignorant of the truth to not be against him. I am not saying the ignorant are stupid I am saying they are too caught up in “us vs them” to get information from both sides to make informed decisions.
“You people should live in my world for a day! I put up with your unrelenting criticism of me and my views and yet I say, “Get over it” and I’m unChristian!” Time to put on your big boy britches, Paul. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the blogosphere.
Paul, I have never blogged before. But after reading what David Drury and others have had to say, one of my questions is: Do they read what they post? It’s one thing to disagree, but to vilify while saying, “Receive dissension with grace,…” while not doing the same is absurd. There are some who practice a faith I am unfamiliar with.

I cannot support a man who has ignored the alarms too many times, he had documents of September 11th at the beginning of his term in February. I don’t know about you, but thousands of “True Americans” died that day, and this man knew he could have put the country on high alert and putting in new measures to save thousands of lives that were lost. I think you’re meaning of true American is too biased, even though you talk about biased liberal media, you are biased neo-con media. Former President Bush, and his neo-con buddies, put shrill up everyone’s legs alright. Shrills of fear and tyranny, in which our founding fathers were afraid of. I can’t see why you are still proud of him. True I’m not a big fan of media, but even neo-conservatives like unlike you wanted Bush out. Yes I respect him but not proud of the job he did.

I’m not sure Paul, but maybe it’s the new darker background that is leaving some feeling you are shall we say “Dricollesque” (less than warm and fuzzy.)
Ironic that you would block Stephanie from your blog and delete her husband’s well thought out rebuttal so shortly after posting a blog about the “left” wanting to crush free speech and silence the right by eliminating right wing talk radio.

Your question, “Would Jesus want me to be honest or milquetoast,” reminds of another question posed in scripture, that of the young lawyer who asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
Of course, as you well know, the lawyer was fooling himself by daring to ask “What stuff do I have to check off my list in order to be called righteous?” Entrance to the kingdom is not a series of hoops to be jumped through. Salvation is not about doing, but receiving. The scandal of the Gospel is that which we could never earn on our own has been paid for and offered to us for free if we will just receive it.
Jesus answers the lawyer by, essentially, saying, “WRONG QUESTION.” and then proceeds to weave a tale, at the end of which the lawyer is forced to admit that the dirty, godless Samaritan was the righteous one.
Honest or Milquetoast? WRONG QUESTION.
Your choices are to:
A) Put up walls, defend your territory, take offense, blame shift, shame those who cross you, say things like “You people should live in my world,” flippantly dismiss and/or block those who call you on the carpet, snidely waving goodbye as you do so, and in the end chalk it all up to Jesus.
B) Recieve dissension with grace, offer dissenting opinion with grace, welcome ANY seeker into the fold, empty self of self, turn the other cheek, rejoice in your strengths, weep at your shortcomings, and in the end ask Jesus for help when the task is overwhelming.
Stephanie sought to engage you and challenge you well within the bounds of decent dialogue. What about her exchange threatened your manhood, such that you would be so cowardly as to dismiss her and mock her on the way out the door? I’m surprised you didn’t just cut her off, but made a point of erecting a billboard to honor the occasion, for everyone to see. Like praying out loud in public, “Thank you Lord that I’m not like THOSE people.”
Let me guess. The story of Ananias and Saphira has always been trouble for you.

You don’t get a 21% approval rating because of the MSM, however, the media is always a nice target. The fact is the media is not biased as a whole against conservatives, if that were the case iraq would have never happened. I hear the same MSM arguments from those on the left. It is all about your perspective. If you are on the far right you are always going to find things in the media that you don’t agree with, if you are on the far left the same thing will happen. GWB’s 21% approval rating was because of actions that he took that directly affected the lives of millions of people. My grandkids will be paying for the many mistakes and arrogant actions that he took while in office. Low approval ratings mean nothing to most christians because they feel, based on certain scripture, that is the “world” agrees with them then there is something wrong.
Yeah Paul, I thought that was uncalled for. I’ve always striven to be objective and level-headed in my responses on this blog.
My concern is that while you state politics and religion are not mutually exclusive, I have no idea how religion ties into conservative politics except where abortion and gay marriage are concerned (and even I believe there are religious reasons behind the democratic platforms behind those platforms). I have no idea why we support Bush simply because he claims to be a Christian, but we scoff at Obama when he claims to be a Christian. Has either one demonstrated clear-cut proof of their faith besides Bush’s pandering to the Religious Right (which has often acted antithetically to the faith it claims)? And I’ll back that up by saying that while Obama has dialogued with Christian leaders, I don’t have any reason to believe he’s a born-again believer, either.
Also, you’re a public figure. You host a show that allows (in theory) people to dialogue. As that, your blog exists not simply to espouse your views but also to invite dialogue with people who do not share your views. As a public figure and a pastor, you have a responsibility to speak the truth in love with gentleness, humility and kindness, something that, unfortunately, I don’t see a lot of on this blog.
Cool, Paul! Let’s talk about culture and how they and God intersect, then. I think they and politics are definitely not mutually exclusive!
Also, as a Christian, do you feel that you have a duty to be kind and to engage people who post like Chris? I feel like you pretty abruptly dismissed him when you told him to “Get over it.”
Paul, I just don’t see how this blog is about God. I see it being about politics! Am I wrong? What are your thoughts?
He and his family have served Texas admirably for many years…We are proud of both Bush presidents. Maybe we didn’t always agree with everything they did…But Texas IS proud of them both!
There were many offended at the insult given at the inauguration, so now that we have them at home…I am sure there will be many times and events where the Bushes will be saluted as beloved sons of Texas!
They are honored for who they are not where they are!

I do miss the days when this site used to be about theology and something more culturally-relevant than politics. Surely culture is not just about who our President is and the most pressing concerns of the day exist outside of petty ideology and towing a party line.
After the absurdity of the inauguration, I am glad to see him being honored properly.
